IDASH Privacy & Security Workshop https://dpph.ch/idash-privacy-security-workshop/ Fri, 20 Sep 2019 08:16:51 +0000 https://dpph.ch/?p=831 Indianapolis, October 26, 2019

The growth of genome data and computational requirements overwhelm the capacity of servers. Many institutions and the NIH are considering cloud computing services as a cost-effective alternative to scale up research. Privacy and security are major concerns when deploying cloud-based data analysis tools. In the past few years, secure computation methods have had significant performance improvement but it is still not clear if they are applicable to biomedical challenges involving big data. The goal of this challenge is to evaluate the performance of state-of-the-art methods that ensure rigorous data confidentiality during data analyses in a cloud environment.

Talk at i2b2 tranSMART Foundation Annual Symposium https://dpph.ch/talk-at-i2b2-transmart-foundation-annual-symposium/ Mon, 17 Jun 2019 13:01:41 +0000 https://dpph.ch/?p=561
  • Presenter: Jean Louis Raisaro
  • Title: “MedCo: enabling privacy-preserving federated cohort exploration with homomorphic encryption and permissioned blockchains”
  • Venue: i2b2 tranSMART Foundation Annual Symposium, Boston, United States, June 17-18, 2019
  • Summary: The i2b2 tranSMART Foundation is a member-driven non-profit foundation developing an open-source / open-data community around the i2b2, tranSMART and OpenBEL translational research platforms. Its mission is to enable effective collaboration for precision medicine, through the sharing, integration, standardization and analysis of heterogenous data from healthcare and research. We presented MedCo, the system proposed by DPPH to enable privacy-preserving data discovery and feasibility studies in clinical research network through the integration of homomorphic encryption within the i2b2 framework.

Presentation in a seminar organized by the University of Rouen https://dpph.ch/presentation-in-a-seminar-organized-by-the-university-of-rouen/ Thu, 06 Jun 2019 15:08:27 +0000 https://dpph.ch/?p=611
  • Presenter: M. Georgieva
  • Venue: University of Rouen, Rouen, France, June 6, 2019
  • About: TFHE – Chimera: How combine fully homomorphic encryption schemes? – Chimera is common framework for scale-invariant fully homomorphic schemes based on Ring-LWE, unifying the plaintext space and the noise representation. This hybrid protocol allows to use multiple libraries during the same computation and provides the possibility to take advantage of the best of three schemes (TFHE, HEAAN and B/FV). We review how different strategies developed for each of these schemes, such as bootstrapping, external product, integer arithmetic and Fourier series, can be combined to evaluate the principle nonlinear functions involved in machine learning.

    IC Research Day – Digital Trust https://dpph.ch/ic-research-day-2019-digital-trust/ Thu, 06 Jun 2019 12:42:16 +0000 https://dpph.ch/?p=738 SwissTech Convention Center, EPFL, June 6, 2019

Trust is indispensable to the prosperity and well-being of societies. For millennia, we developed trust-building mechanisms to facilitate interactions. But as they become increasingly digital, many traditional mechanisms no longer function well, hence trust breaks down.

As a result, low levels of trust discourage us from engaging in new forms of interactions and constrain business opportunities.

We must therefore re-invent trust mechanisms that will contribute to prosperous and peaceful societies in the digital age.

The IC Research Day was a 1-day event, organized by the School of Computer and Communication Sciences (IC), where world-leading experts presented and discussed their work towards achieving ‘digital trust’. EPFL researchers showcased ongoing research projects and engaged with the audience.
